Evan Powers is a recent graduate of Florida State University and is currently the choral director at Fleming Island High School. At FSU he was a member of University Singers, Men's Glee, Opera Chorus, and Vocal Jazz. He also co-founded and music directed (2 years) Reverb, FSU's all-male a cappella group. At FIHS he conducts 4 traditional choirs as well as two non-traditional ensembles, Treblemakers (vocal jazz) and Desperate Measures (pop a cappella). He also directs community musicals at home in Tolland, Connecticut and music directs musicals at FIHS. He LOVES teaching and is excited to be returning to the OPC.
J. Mark Scott is currently retired after teaching public school choral music for 38 years. He taught for 31 years in Duval County and for seven years at Fleming Island High School in Clay County. His choirs consistently earned high ratings at both the district and state levels. He is an active clinician and adjudicator having conducted honor choirs in ten Florida counties. Mark is active in the Florida Music Educators Association where he served as president of the Florida Vocal Association and currently serves as executive director of that organization. In 1998, he was named the Duval County Teacher of the Year. Mark has been married to Brenda Scott, choral director at St, Johns Country Day School, for thirty five years. They have two grown sons, Adam and Matthew.
